Monarch Wilderness & Mt. Harrington

This spring we sprinted south to the High Sierra to take advantage of the low snow year to enjoy some solitude in a rarely visited corner of the Monarch Wilderness and King's Canyon National Park. Mount Harrington (11,009') was our objective. The trail in and out was grueling as we climbed ~7000' on decomposing granite via "unimproved" (read: nonexistent) trails. We made our camp at Grizzly Lakes on Saturday night. On Sunday we summited the ridge early, and from our granite perch we were able to see all the way across Sequoia and Kings Canyon (SEKI) National Parks to the seldom seen western aspect of Mt. Whitney.
