Maddy & Tim's Welcome Dinner

We kicked off Maddy and Tim's wedding weekend at the Noyo Center Marine Field Station, and honestly, it was the perfect spot for it. A marine station, right on the water, feels completely different from a typical event venue. No big ballroom, nothing too fancy. Just the California coast doing what it does best, and everyone gathered right up against it as the evening light went soft.
That setting ended up shaping the whole weekend. With the water so close and the crowd small enough that everyone actually knew everyone, dinner felt more like a big family gathering than a wedding event. People wandered, caught up, pointed out the boats in the water.
Then came the speeches, and they matched the mood exactly. Friends of the bride and groom went first, telling the stories that only come from years of knowing someone, funny, a little embarrassing, all clearly said with love. Then Tim and Maddy stood up themselves, and the whole place went quiet in that good way, everyone leaning in a little.
By the time we wrapped up, it was obvious the setting had done half the work. Put people who love each other somewhere that beautiful and unfussy, and the night takes care of itself. Photographing this night for dear friends was a joy!
